Cry Awry

Cry Awry

21 Sept 2018

You're losing sleep.
Cancer's the reason why.
The hurt runs deep,
So go ahead and cry.
Your life's been sideswiped
And it's direction has altered.
As you've been stereotyped,
Perhaps your step has faltered.
There's a new normal starting now.
You're not sure of what will be.
You'll manage to get by somehow
In spite of all the ache and misery.
Unexpectedly life's different.
You're mourning the way it was.
Living has a new battlefront.
You don't care about dramas.
People around you voice opinions.
Regardless of what splatters,
You stick to your guns
And focus on what matters.
The pain and hurt run deep.
For some relief, go ahead and cry.
You're losing way too much sleep
And cancer's the reason why.

Know Woe

Know Woe
6 May 2016

My commute was horrible.
People weren’t very nice.
The other drivers were terrible.
I almost got hit twice.
Traffic was the worst, wouldn’t you know,
The real possibility of a flat tire
In the miles and miles of slow and go
Just pushed my stress levels higher.
Arriving home, I promptly collapse.
Tomorrow’ll be another rat race.
I dream of retiring, perhaps.
My life needs a change of pace
And I’m in danger of a relapse.
Thinking, I don’t see any choice,
My life’s stalled, stuck in a rut.
Nothing makes my heart rejoice,
But I’m angry enough to kick butt.
Alas, I don’t know who’s butt to kick.
I want to feel better, that’s for sure.
All this stress is making me sick.
Tonight I’ll make alcohol my cure.
One immediate affect of drinking
Is a change in mood and thinking.
So as to not borrow sorrow,
I’ll think about tomorrow tomorrow.

Internet Post as a Toast

Internet Post as a Toast
13 July 2015

Here’s to words that feed the soul
From whatever source they may be found.
Here’s to bliss and feeling whole;
Now, today and all year round.
Here are wings to help you fly,
Support for the life of your dreams.
Go, leaving behind pain and sigh.
There’s more to life than it seems.
May kisses meet your puckered lips.
Let fears and sorrows find release,
Dance crazy and sashay your hips.
Make living your way a masterpiece.

Not Tasking, Basking

Not Tasking, Basking
9 July 2014

Among the abandoned mines,
We look at the summer sky.
Relaxing in the pines,
We watch three hawks circle by.
Sitting on the porch swing
Listening to the birds sing,
Swatting occasional flies,
Not doing a darn thing,
Just swapping true lies.
Together, my friend and I
Watch the evening sunset.
As the time goes by,
Life is good, you bet.

Mellow Hello

There's an old Neil Diamond song that starts "Hello my friend, hello."

Mellow Hello
18 Nov 2013

Hello Jamison, hello.
Just to let you know
Daddy loves you so.
Aye, you're such a wee one,
But your life's just begun.
Before very long
You'll be big and strong,
But that's down the road
When you're all growed.
Just for now,
As time will allow
Stay in my arms here
And fall asleep, my dear.

Welcome Pilgrim

Welcome Pilgrim
16 Nov 2013

Hello Jamison, my newest nephew.
My, my it's been really busy
With lots of activity around you.
We've all been in a tizzy.
Grandma Adams came to give childcare
While you and Bronwyn were hospitalized
And Monson went the ER for his welfare.
Everybody was stressed, almost traumatized.
Britton lost his first game of the season.
Then Sterling flew to a Denver conference
Where he spoke to thinkers of reason
Using physics research as a reference.
After a few hectic days, we're glad
To have you home with the family.
We're all ready, with Mom and Dad,
For life to continue more serenely.

This Person's Life Lessons

This Person's Life Lessons
6 October 2012

The rules of life stipulate:
Dress up, show up, participate.
Always give it your best shot.
Be a player, not just vegetate.
You never know how long you've got.
Discover and follow you passion,
Wether it's in or out of fashion.
Do the very best you can.
Be above the barbs, stings
And insults of humanity's clan
That living in society brings,
Like assaults on your values.
Usually it's the little things
That make you sing the blues
And tug at your heartstrings.
Whatever life offers, you can refuse,
Refuse to take the easy way out.
You always have a chance to choose
A life that's worthwhile throughout.
Life always gives you chances
To be bigger than circumstances.

Lies and Stories, Defeats and Glories

Lies and Stories, Defeats and Glories
17 July 2012

We've known each other for ages
Since we were five, maybe four,
Long before we had jobs with wages
When we were innocent to the core.
After graduation we took on
Life that could be outrageous,
Unwilling to just look on
Before life could age us.

We've known each other for so long
It's kind of useless to put on airs.
We've come back to where we belong
To share life's cares and scares.
We'll just talk about the facts.
Nobody would be rude and uncouth
Enough to brag about their acts
Or lie to stretch the truth.

Any Clock's Toolbox

Any Clock's Toolbox
4 July 2012

This little rhyme
Reminds every schmo
That life is time.
You just never know
How long you've got,
So I advise giving
Life your best shot
Here and now; living
Usefully and productively
To improve the existence
Deftly and constructively
For all earth's residents.

Real Bleak Workweek

Real Bleak Workweek
19 June 2012

Many days this seems if it's
Not the way life's supposed to be.
Ready to call it quits
Filled with some pain and tragedy.
You're like an automatic machine
Doing the grueling daily grind,
Going thru your routine
Driven out of your mind.
Experiencing a mix of fury and bored,
Wanting to call in sick or go on strike.
Eventually going out of your gourd,
The boss wants your head on a pike.

Swooner For Crooner

Swooner For Crooner
12 March 2012
Dedicated to Engelbert Humperdink, Roger Whittaker and etc.

Listening to the songs without a toll
On the radio, the balladeer belts out
As his voice vibrates into my soul,
Thru closed eyes a tear melts out.

For a few precious minutes
Life slows to a pause
Then quickens when in struts
The singer who overawes.

The voice makes me feel deep down
Like I haven't in a long time.
It takes me back to my hometown
When all the songs had rhyme.

In my mind I'm young once more.
Listening to music from the past
With an orchestration score
Gives me feelings I want to last.

Visualization Affirmation

Visualization Affirmation
14 November 2011
Who’s that handsome dude in the mirror
With a golden earring in his ear?
Life is better this year.
Still wishing for money up to here,
But visualizing crystal clear
Many sources, never fear.
From a product’s premier
Forging ahead in a career.
Also imagining someone dear
Who is loving and near.
Enjoying health and cheer
With many a peer
While traveling from here
Like the jet set tier.

Current Plan

My, My, A Last Good-bye

4 February 2011

Life is sweet,

Bring a treat,

An afternoon dessert potluck

To wish Al Smith good luck.

After twenty-two years plus

It’s his turn to leave us.

Join him from 2 to 4

Before he’s out the door.

March 16th is the day

For this last hurray.

The North Central FRC

Is the place to be.

At the 5055 Ruffin Road lunchroom

We'll toast, roast and consume

The food and dish the dirt

So he gets his just dessert.

You'll have to ask the guard

If you don't have an ID card.

Valise's Pieces

It's no use
To refuse a Muse.
I wasn't hired.
I was inspired.

I knows what I knows
And that's the way it goes.
Sometimes life smells like a skunk
And sometimes it smells like a rose.
