Amenity Unity

Amenity Unity
24 October 2016

“Come on in,” the water invited.
Gradually the gentle lappings
Reached my waist as we united
And liquid became my trappings.
The fluid bore me no ill per se.
Fear was generated by this desert rat’s
Lack of experience with ocean spray,
Having lived mostly in arid habitats.
The pool splashed in reaction to me.
My movements disturbed its tranquility,
But together we could exist in serenity
And my outlook changed for eternity.

Labor Day on the Bay

Labor Day on the Bay
8 Sept 2015

To celebrate Labor Day
We went to play in the sun,
Splashing in the bay,
And building a sandcastle for fun.
Our castle was shapeless.
The sand resisted conforming.
Shaping battlements was hopeless.
Water and kids performing
Their best to undermine
Building efforts by adults.
Their joint forces did combine
To give suboptimal results.
Amid all the fun and recreation,
The sun's ever churning fusion
Emitted ultraviolet radiation,
Giving the kids a burning conclusion.
From a parental point of view
Perhaps nothing was accomplished.
But there was no emergency rescue
And for the time “work” vanished.

Shower by the Hour

Shower by the Hour
29 November 2014

I swear the gas bill’s going up
And the water bill, too.
It’s all from Al showing up
To shower and shampoo.
When the water’s just right
He doesn’t know he’s over the top
And the water just runs in spite
Of the costs going on non-stop.
He turns around and around
Under the water’s warm spray,
Dancing naked and unbound,
Acting like it’s time to play.
He’d turn the water off
If he had any common sense.
It’s time to towel off
Instead of testing my beneficence.
I fervently hope that he
Cooperates and understands
Instead of leaving me
Just wringing my hands.

Reform By Rainstorm

Reform By Rainstorm
30 December 2012

Darkness gathers at noon
From the clouds of a monsoon.
I watch the heavy rain
From my upper windowpane,
Looking at the cars dash
Down the street with a splash.
The drops coming in sputters
Overflow and fill the gutters.
As the water gushes and sloshes
It thoroughly rinses and washes.
Afterwards the yards'll appear
With a fresh-scrubbed atmosphere.
The air'll smell pure and clean,
Invigorating and pristine.
On Facebook, I'm glad to get by
Inside where it's warm and dry.

Cool Dip Pool Tip

Cool Dip Pool Tip
9 Sept 2012

All this dancing's making me sweat
The caller's moving us so fast
My clothes are getting all wet.
I don't think my stamina'll last.
I know, let's go and get cool
By square dancing in the pool.

This caller's the fastest talker in town,
Staying in here, we'll only get hotter.
I think I know of a place to cool down,
Let's go dance and splash in the water.
That's a way for us to get cool,
By square dancing in the pool.

Quarters' Importers and Exporters

Quarters' Importers and Exporters
21 August 2012

Calling:

All hail East, whose element is air.
Come, attend us, in our prayer.
Join us in our rite
As we celebrate this night.

Hail South, whose element is fire.
Be with us to grant our hearts' desire.
Dance and make us right
As we play this night.

All hail West, whose element is water
And whose animals are bear and otter.
Lend us your influence as we unite
To romp and frolic tonight.

Hail North, whose element is earth,
Help this tribe as we give birth
To mirth and our souls take flight
On this honorable night.

Releasing:

Hail color white and direction East,
Thanks for attending our feast.
You are now released.

All hail North and color evergreen,
Thanks for visiting us and points in between
We set you free, to go on serene.

Hail West and color blue,
We give you your due
And bid a fond adieu.

All hail South and color red
Thanks for the presents you spread
We say farewell as we head to bed.

We release back to your abodes
To resume your normal modes
Until called for future episodes.
