Healed Yield

Healed Yield
26 June 2017

“You never want a drink until the well runs dry.”
You don’t miss something that’s always there.
Suddenly, one day it’s gone and there’s an outcry.
For me, symptoms came the same as wear and tear.
One, then another affliction came to my attention.
None, by itself, was important enough to mention.
After a road trip, my hearing was diminished.
One ear was partially, then fully blocked;
Making words and music on that side hushed.
It was hard to gauge my volume as I talked.
Also, a sore spot under my tongue
Made it hard to vocalize and chew.
My personal song of life went unsung.
I discussed with my doctor each issue.
My physician prescribed a medication
Because of the results of my lab test.
I took the drug for my edification
And it’s benefits quickly manifest.
Now my mouth’s better, so I can talk.
My hearing’s cleared up, so both ears function.
I move, so there’s no problem with my walk.
I’m grateful to be at a healthy junction.
There’s a feeling of well-being where I dwell.
It’s like there’s fresh water in my well.

Party Hearty

A friend asked me to write a generic birthday poem.

Party Hearty
27 Sept 2012

We heard of something divine
Thru a friend's grapevine,
And wanted to drop you a line
To let you know this is genuine.
It's time for a celebration,
To kick up your heals.
Yeah, it's a declaration
Of how good it feels.
Bring on the birthday cheer
Of drink, candles and cake.
It happens only once a year
So make the memory a keepsake.

Brief Relief

Brief Relief

16 Sept 2010

An American tourist

While visiting England

Decided to resist

Staying with the rest and

Strike out from the tour

To become his own chauffeur,

To taste the local culture

According to his own flavor.

At a nearby pub

He got a chance to rub

Elbows and his sample

Of drinks was very ample.

Later he finds himself on a road

The result of his over drinking

With no place to unload,

He turns to desperate thinking.

Fortunately for our veteran

He runs into a policeman.

“I have an urge I’m trying to beat.

Of all the houses with heirlooms

On this open public street

I don’t see any restrooms.”

“Follow me and I will show

A convenient place for you to go.”

Down a back alley, the small gate

Opened on a very well-appointed place

As beautiful as any he could relate

And the blooms looked ready for a vase.

After making the plants and grass wetter

He felt relieved and so much better.

“Thanks for letting me inside

And pass by with your pardon.”

“My pleasure,” the bobby replied,

“It’s the French Embassy’s garden.”
