Bloom Boom
16 March 2017

It’s called a super bloom
By reporters in the newsroom.
Winter rain’s brought out desert flowers.
There’s been enough to end the drought,
From barely sprinkles to thundershowers.
Nicer weather is bringing people out
To see the verdant growth mushrooming
And the vibrant hues sprouting.
It looks like a carpet blooming
And the perfect excuse for an outing.

Cabin Fever Achiever

Cabin Fever Achiever

Mist in the canyon puts a sheer curtain between me and the other side.
Wintery weather is giving me cabin fever by keeping me inside.
Cold wind blowing wetness around would be like facing suicide.
Remaining under the roof to stay warm and dry is the upside.
I’m indoors while my mind goes stark crazy wanting to be outside.

Early Spring Park Fling

Early Spring Park Fling
26 February 2013

I stepped outside after playing canasta,
The weather was so warm, I said, "I just hasta."
So before it started to get dark
I drove a few blocks to Balboa Park.
Starting with Spanish Village art
I enjoyed the displays in that mart.
Strolling further along
Street performers sang a song.
By the Botanical Building were koi
For one and all to enjoy.
I had the unexpected happenstance
Of running into an acquaintance.
Walking a few steps more, how cool
To be enchanted by the reflecting pool.
Spanish Colonial style prevails
In the architectural details.
I had it made in the shade
Sauntering down the promenade.

Outside And Inside

Outside And Inside
21 October 2012

The air lost its charm
And acquired a chill,
But my heart is warm
And full of goodwill.
As I smoothed the sheet,
It still retained
Some of your body heat.
The memory contained
In my heart of the embracing,
Holding you within my sweep
And full-bodied interlacing
Before falling asleep.
Yes, the weather outside
Is cloudy, raw and gray,
But my heart's song inside
Is bonny, blithe and gay.

Come Hither Weather

In southern California the air usually flows from the ocean to inland. Periodically in the fall, the air flow is reversed from inland to the ocean. Such a condition is called Santa Ana. Air from inland areas actually blows over desert regions so is warm with very low humidity. That condition happened yesterday and inspired today's poem.

It’s much too nice to stay
Inside. The temperatures say,
“Come outside and play.”
