Drowse Then Rouse
18 June 2016

Rousing after a nap
In the late afternoon,
Losing the unawareness crap
From my drowsy swoon,
Thru a squinting eyeball
I see the light display.
Shadows on the far wall
Indicate the end of day.
Relaxing, stretched across my bed
At this time of adulthood,
This thought enters my head,
“By golly, life is good!”

Night’s Sights

Night’s Sights
17 Feb 2016

While camping out in a remote area, I went to bed
And dreamed about the Milky Way arched overhead.
The sky was festooned with stars strewn
As points of light along with the moon.

I read a children’s simple story,
Full of imagery and all allegory,
Where the kids traveled in train cars
Out to talk to the moon and stars.

There was a sword and sorcery novel,
Where the hero started in a hovel,
Then grew up and gained magical avatars
To pull power from the moon and stars.

I read a science fiction book
With its futuristic outlook.
It was a rocket pilot’s memoirs
About flying to outlying stars.

Bedtime In Rhyme

Bedtime In Rhyme
25 April  2013

Shoot today in the head
And trundle off to bed.
Today was work and fun;
And what's done is done.
Tomorrow will be here soon enough
Bringing its own challenges and stuff.
Let's hope sleep comes on quick
And lying in bed will do the trick.
I just hate tossing and turning
When my brain keeps on churning.
With a yawn I said,
"Shoot today in the head.
It's time to hit the bed."

Nighttime Pastime

Nighttime Pastime
15 October 2012

tiredness' spawn
say, "Good night"
then with a yawn
turn out the light
time for sleepyhead
to spot and tilt
toward the bed
crawl under the quilt
beat retreat
tumble deep
under the sheet
and fall to sleep

Road Trip Friendship

Road Trip Friendship
15 March 2012

Thankful for the safe trip,
The catching up, gossip
And genial fellowship;
Grateful for what happened,
How the events opened
And for rest at the end;
I'll put today to bed,
Crawl under the spread
And lay down my head.

Writhing or Writing

Writhing or Writing

30 August 2010

Rhymes going thru my head

As I’m lying in bed

Trying to fall asleep.

Instead of counting sheep

Out of my chaotic thought river

I have couplets going thru my mind

Examining my vocabulary quiver

Just begging for me to find

A perfect place for them

In a paean or poem.
